Requirements for Program

The Bachelor of Science in Leadership for Community Education and Human Learning degree offers curriculum designed to prepare students to become effective leaders in implementing educational programs within community contexts. This includes individuals seeking a professional career in educational programming for youth and adult learners within communities and organizations outside of the traditional school and classroom structure. This degree is a collaboration between the College of Education and the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment and builds upon the current collaborative Undergraduate Certificate program in Educational Leadership. The target audience includes undergraduate Education majors that have completed general education requirements but do not wish to complete the Teacher Education Preparation (TEP) Programs, as well as non-traditional students that desire a 2-year completer degree to support matriculation from KCTCS programs. A total of 120 credit hours are required for the degree, with 12 credit hours as guided electives where students can specialize in areas of interest based on future career goals.

Guided Electives


Based on the student’s area of interest within community education and human learning, he/she will work with their advisor to complete 12 credit hours of guided electives that form a specialization area.

Free Electives


Students should choose 45 credits of free electives. Free electives can be applied towards one or more university approved Minor (18-21 hours). University approved minors outside the College of Education must be planned with an advisor in the appropriate college if the student wishes to have the minor appear on his/her transcript.
